TRAVEL // Hotspot – Raggamuffin: unique 3 day island hopping adventure in Belize
I’m on a 3 day sailing tour with Raggamuffin and after one hour I already know that this is the best experience I will have in Belize. Imagine a catamaran, the sun, a cool group of travelers and crazy crew, beautiful blue water, dolphins, snorkeling, Dancehall songs, endless glasses of rum punch, camping on deserted islands… It’s such an unforgettable adventure!
Where to start and where to end to describe this great journey? It’s going to be some story. Raggamuffin has put together this unique 3 day adventure to access the more remote and inaccessible parts of Belize’s reef. The water is always calm and super blue as they remain in the inner reef.
Raggamuffin Tour
The tour starts from Caye Caulker and finishes in Dangriga, from where you can easily take a bus towards your next adventure. The trip is designed as an island hopping adventure for all those want to experience this uninhabited Caribbean paradise. You will spend the night on beautiful Rendezvous Caye and Ragga Caye whilst visiting English Caye, Tobacco Caye and South Water Caye. The vibe on the boat is amazing. Dancehall music, an hilarious crew, unlimited rum punch… I miss it.
During the day the sailboat cruises through Belize’s crystal clear waters and picture postcard scenery whilst stopping to snorkel at least twice each day. We took our drone – check out the pictures! Also cool: fishing is an additional element to the trip. They carry hand lines, trawling rods, spin rods and a spear gun. During the evening, the cook will prepare the catch of the day!
Rendezvous Caye and Ragga Caye
Rendezvous Caye and Ragga Caye are nothing more than a strip of sand and some palmtrees. It’s paradise! Here, you put your tent up right at the sand next to the ocean. How amazing is this? There is a non camping option the second night (on Ragga Caye) – next to camping you can stay in the simple dorm or book an over the water cabana (which we did!). Waking up here… No words.
The food is a pleasant surprise as they carry a chef on board the trip! In season they provide lobster and conch and throughout the year shrimp and obviously there is plenty of fish. For those who do not eat fish they can provide chicken and for vegetarians and those who are gluten intolerant they also have excellent menus – do not worry!
Good to know: The trip includes all taxes plus snorkeling and fishing equipment equipment, camping gear, marine reserve and island fees and last but not least food and (alcoholic) beverages! Believe me, it’s absolutely worth it. It’s by far the best experience I’ve had in Belize!
